Land Acknowledgment:
I would like to acknowledge that I am an uninvited guest living on the unceded traditional territory of the Secwepemc Nation, specifically on Tk’emlups te Secwepemc lands. Tk’emlups is stewarded by the Secwepemc people, who have been caring for the land, water, and animals since the beginning of time. Tk’emlups translates to “where the rivers meet,” and I am grateful to have had the privilege of learning from, growing on, and being nourished by these lands and rivers. The rivers here continue to provide clean water that supports me, my family, and my community, just as they have for generations before us and will continue to for generations to come. I want to thank the Secwepemc people for all of the work they continue to do to protect and care for this land, and I want to recognize and apologize for the harm caused by colonization including the theft of these lands by my people, the forced attendance of the Kamloops Residential School, and the ongoing trauma that has come from it.
